How to delete your My JBay account and personal data

Overview

At My JBay, we respect your right to control your personal data. If you wish to delete your account and all associated personal information, you have several options available. This page explains how to request data deletion and what happens when you do.

Important: Deleting your My JBay account is permanent and cannot be undone. All your business information, settings, and data will be permanently removed from our systems.

What Data Will Be Deleted?

When you request account deletion, the following information will be permanently removed:

How to Delete Your Data

You can request data deletion using any of the following methods:

Method 1: Delete Account Within the App

The fastest way to delete your account is directly through the My JBay platform:

  1. Log in to your My JBay account
  2. Go to Settings or Account Settings
  3. Scroll down to find "Delete Account"
  4. Click "Delete My Account"
  5. Confirm your decision when prompted
  6. Your account and all data will be deleted immediately

Method 2: Email Request

You can send a data deletion request via email:

  1. Send an email to info@myjbay.co.za
  2. Use the subject line: "Data Deletion Request"
  3. Include your registered email address and business name (if applicable)
  4. We will process your request within 30 days
  5. You will receive a confirmation email once deletion is complete

Method 3: Revoke Facebook App Access

If you used Facebook to import your business data, you can also revoke My JBay's access:

  1. Go to your Facebook account settings
  2. Navigate to Settings & PrivacySettings
  3. Click on Apps and Websites
  4. Find "My JBay" in the list
  5. Click "Remove" to revoke access

Note: This only removes Facebook's connection to My JBay. To delete your My JBay account data, you must also use Method 1 or Method 2 above.

What Happens After Deletion?

Once your data deletion request is processed:

Backup Retention: For technical reasons, backup copies of your data may remain in our backup systems for up to 90 days before being permanently purged. These backups are not accessible and are automatically deleted as part of our regular backup rotation.

Alternatives to Full Deletion

If you're not ready to permanently delete your account, consider these alternatives:

Temporary Deactivation

You can temporarily deactivate your account instead of deleting it. This hides your business profile but preserves your data so you can reactivate later.

Data Export

Before deleting your account, you can request a copy of your data. Contact us at info@myjbay.co.za to request a data export.

Selective Data Removal

If you only want to remove specific information (like certain photos or contact details), you can edit your profile instead of deleting your entire account.

Facebook/Instagram Data

If you imported data from Facebook or Instagram:

To revoke My JBay's access to your Facebook account, follow the instructions in Method 3 above.
